Stupendous Saturday

Big, big plans today. Daddy and Son are going to Laser Tag with the Boy Scouts and Daughter is going to a Princess Party. Sounds like fun, huh? Mommy is staying home to clean the house, yee-haw!

(this photo depicts exactly how much fun I have cleaning.)

My day in court

Today was my day in court, traffic court. I was nervous but I would’ve been a lot more nervous than I was had it not been for me going to court two days too early. Imagine you’re real nervous, going to court all alone. You arrive and the place is nearly deserted. You talk to the clerk and he informs you that you should be there on Thursday, not Tuesday. Ugh!

This was my second time going to court for a ticket. The first time I was 25 and I didn’t seem as worried back then. The place was packed with mostly teens and their parents and what I would call a bunch of “riff raff”. I felt so out of place and vowed to try to never get myself in that position again. I did, however, walk out of court without having to pay the ticket. Phew!

Happy 2008!

New Year’s Resolution: a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous.

This is the time when everyone is trying real hard to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions. I have never made a resolution therefore I’ve never had to stick to one. This year I decided I would make one resolution for myself. But I didn’t want to resolve to do something that I know I will not follow through with.

This year I resolve to commit to preparing at least 4 healthy home-cooked dinners and trying one new recipe a week. This used to be no problem for me but I have fallen into the habit of quick and easy so I could take care of other family business. I’m sure my family would love to see me succeed! :)

13 December

Storm Alexander is here.

Well, here it is, our first named storm of the season. It’s been snowing for 2 hours and already there seems to be inches. The worst is yet to come and probably will not finish until around midnight. Total expected is 10 inches or more, we’re all at work waiting for them to send us on our way home. I’m going to try to snap pictures throughout the day, this is the first I took with my phone about an hour ago.

Saturday skating.

After chatting with Maggie last week about her plans to visit NYC and skating at Rockefeller Center (I wanted to go but sadly I couldn’t), I decided to bring the kids to a nearby rink, ISCC, to give skating a try. The kids were nervous since they’ve never been on skates and I’ve only attempted to ice skate twice in my life, when I was a kid, so I was nervous as well. I made plans with my friend Michele who has taken lessons so she was a pro compared to us.

The kids fell a bunch of times but never gave up, they both just got up and continued skating. I also took my 13 yr old niece, she never fell, she held onto the wall the entire time. I didn’t fall once! Phew! I was so proud of my kids, I couldn’t get over how well they were doing for their first time ever on the ice.

We get in the car after public skate finishes and my son says “I wish I was still skating, I can’t wait to do it again, I LOVE ice-skating!” I’m so glad I decided to bring the kids to try something new, I guess I know where I’m going next weekend.

Busy, Busy, Busy.

What a busy holiday I had! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We not only had dinner on Thursday but had a repeat on Friday. Every year my family gets together at Sunrise Park for Thanksgiving. This year we held it on Friday for my uncle, his wife and daughter came up from Texas to join us.

I tell people that we have Thanksgiving at a park and they think it’s a bit odd or we’re just nuts. There is a big enclosed pavilion with tables, chairs, a fireplace and electricity. The tables get decorated with tablecloths, candles and center pieces. We set up the food buffet-style, on hot plates and crock pots. We set up a little bar in one area. It’s one of my favorite places and the kids absolutely love going there, especially for Thanksgiving. After dinner my dad takes the kids on a hike and tells them ridiculously tall tales (usually believed by 6 and 7 yr olds), I decided to go this year and had so much fun. I’ll be posting pictures in the next few days, to share with you! :)

Heads or Tails - Never Say Never

I once said, a few years ago, that I would never leave my job. I would stay here until I retire. I was sure that I would just be there forever. I used to love my job and some days I still do but lately I feel like I could take it or leave it. Once in awhile I do look in the classifieds and on the net for employment opportunities. I have updated my resume and think that it’s only a matter of time before I move on to something new and/or different.

Never say never - six years is hardly forever.

First Snow

Today I awoke to a winter wonderland. Little bits of snow on the lawn, a dusting on the driveway. Beautiful. It was just enough until I hopped in my car to head into work. What normally is a 30 minute ride took over an hour! Now I look out my window from my office and see that it’s coming down hard and heavy.

Our first snow of the season and I’ve had enough already!
