We had a wonderful time with The Twins this past Friday night. The older they get, the more fun they are. The Twins are my nearly four year old niece and nephew, Peyton and Gabe. They listen to me which is also good. They adore us as much as we adore them.
The girls hung out together…

The boys were obnoxious together…

New Year’s Resolution: a commitment that an individual makes to a project or a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous.
This is the time when everyone is trying real hard to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions. I have never made a resolution therefore I’ve never had to stick to one. This year I decided I would make one resolution for myself. But I didn’t want to resolve to do something that I know I will not follow through with.
This year I resolve to commit to preparing at least 4 healthy home-cooked dinners and trying one new recipe a week. This used to be no problem for me but I have fallen into the habit of quick and easy so I could take care of other family business. I’m sure my family would love to see me succeed!

My two kids and I were watching TV Guide yesterday, sometime around 6:00, to see what Holiday specials or movies were on. On the top of the screen where they have entertainment shows, the show Lookalike came on. That’s the show where people think they look like a certain celebrity and a team of stylists do a makeover to help them look more the part. We watch the part where the people are introducing themselves and the stylists asks them a few questions. It’s all fine and innocent until one of the stylists asks a guy “Does looking like all these hot celebs get you laid?” another one says “Does it help your sex life?” Come on! I was appalled that they, on the TV Guide channel, would say stuff like that. I immediately changed the channel and was praying my 7 yr old would not ask me what “laid” meant. He didn’t, thank goodness!

Did everyone get their lists toSanta? My kids sent theirs off to Santa yesterday, I told them we’re cutting it kind of close so they shouldn’t be disappointed if they don’t get everything on their list (they never get everything anyway, lol). To be honest, I don’t think either of my kids still believe in Santa. My 11 yr old definitely doesn’t, she told me she knows it’s Mom and Dad.
Last year I wasn’t really smart about getting rid of the boxes that their Santa gifts came in and my son found them! He was 6 at the time so I figured all I had to tell them was Santa left them behind and I put them in the basement just to get them out of the way. I don’t think I was convincing though. I’m gonna try to pull off the Santa thing this year and try to convince my son that there is a Santa Claus because I think 7 is just too young to not believe.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that I would show some Thanksgiving pictures since we don’t follow the ‘norm’ and we hold it at a park. So here are a few!

The buffet table, you might be able to make out the big stone fireplace behind.

Starting our after dinner walk. Here you see an outdoor chapel.

A view of the pavilion from across the lake.

Leaving our mark on the beach before heading back.

After chatting with Maggie last week about her plans to visit NYC and skating at Rockefeller Center (I wanted to go but sadly I couldn’t), I decided to bring the kids to a nearby rink, ISCC, to give skating a try. The kids were nervous since they’ve never been on skates and I’ve only attempted to ice skate twice in my life, when I was a kid, so I was nervous as well. I made plans with my friend Michele who has taken lessons so she was a pro compared to us.

The kids fell a bunch of times but never gave up, they both just got up and continued skating. I also took my 13 yr old niece, she never fell, she held onto the wall the entire time. I didn’t fall once! Phew! I was so proud of my kids, I couldn’t get over how well they were doing for their first time ever on the ice.
We get in the car after public skate finishes and my son says “I wish I was still skating, I can’t wait to do it again, I LOVE ice-skating!” I’m so glad I decided to bring the kids to try something new, I guess I know where I’m going next weekend.

What a busy holiday I had! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We not only had dinner on Thursday but had a repeat on Friday. Every year my family gets together at Sunrise Park for Thanksgiving. This year we held it on Friday for my uncle, his wife and daughter came up from Texas to join us.
I tell people that we have Thanksgiving at a park and they think it’s a bit odd or we’re just nuts. There is a big enclosed pavilion with tables, chairs, a fireplace and electricity. The tables get decorated with tablecloths, candles and center pieces. We set up the food buffet-style, on hot plates and crock pots. We set up a little bar in one area. It’s one of my favorite places and the kids absolutely love going there, especially for Thanksgiving. After dinner my dad takes the kids on a hike and tells them ridiculously tall tales (usually believed by 6 and 7 yr olds), I decided to go this year and had so much fun. I’ll be posting pictures in the next few days, to share with you!

My daughter came home today with her first report card as a middle-schooler and she made Second Honors, I’m sooo proud of her! Last week I offered her $2.00 for each A, A+ or A- she gets, nil for B’s and C’s cancel out the A’s. Each marking period they will go up 50 cents. I don’t want to go broke when she’s a Freshman! Now let’s bring up those B’s and get First Honors next time!
