Mmm… Kettle Corn!

The kids get their Dippin’ Dots and fried dough but one of my favorite things at Six Flags is their kettle corn.  Not only do I love the sweet buttery taste, I like to watch them make it.  They don’t use your typical popcorn machines they use an actual kettle. Once the kernels are poured into the hot kettle, the attendant stirs it constantly with a paddle-like wooden stick. What a job on a hot summer day, I don’t envy them at all but I sure do love the kettle corn!

Fun Day at Six Flags

As you can see from my Wordless Wednesday post, I took the kids to Six Flags over the weekend.  We got season passes this year as we usually do except last year we took the summer off from Six Flags.  My son is now tall enough to ride every ride and he can’t wait to get on Superman.  We didn’t even go near it on Sunday since we had a boy with us who clearly wasn’t tall enough to ride it but the kids had a great time regardless.  Since I’m not a fan of riding solo or with a stranger, I opted out of some rides and just waited for the kids.  I am a roller coaster fanatic, I love every single one of them.  The only thing that I won’t ride is the ferris wheel but they removed that a few years ago, thank goodness!  Below are a few snapshots from our very long day at the park.

This is Flashback, a favorite of all of us.  We were all tall enough for this one.

The Time Warp, Adam changed his mind on this one after we sat in our seats after we waited in line!

The Tomahawk - another favorite, I sat out with the little guy.

Who doesn’t love the bumper cars?  There’s my daughter in blue, going the wrong way causing a traffic jam.

Labels, they’re not just for mailing.

I’ve talked before about my dad’s business, it’s nothing glamorous but he makes great money.  We’re always trying to come up with ways for his business to run more efficiently.  Recently he’s talked about the labels for the machines he builds, it’s a great idea for him to have the name of his company and contact information on it just in case it is in need of repairs.  Labelworldusa.com offers such labels, along with Wine Bottle Labels, Tamper Evident Labels, Promotional Labels and more.

Friday at the parade.

I promised an update on my busy weekend, so here’s a start.  Friday afternoon I left work early to go to my son’s school for his parade.  Every year the kids put on a float parade, each class has their own theme.  One was "Save the Polar Bears" another was "Summer Time Fun" and "Famous People in History".  This year was special for Adam as he was chosen from his class to march with the art teacher and "Reilly" our firehouse mascot that the 2nd grade worked hard to restore.  I don’t know too much about Reilly’s history but I heard from one of the bystanders that he was nearly 100 years old!

Get back to sleep!

Do you have trouble getting to sleep on your own? Wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep? I struggle with this nearly every night. I need the TV on to fall asleep and usually end up on the couch for most of the night as my husband does not like the TV being on while he’s trying to sleep. It’s not the sound of the TV that bothers him, it’s the light that comes from it. I’ve often seen white noise machines which may work for my situation.  I found a few different ones at Dreamessentials.com.  Definitely something worth checking out.

Here I Go Again

image

As the warmer weather approaches, I’m once again faced with trying to fit into my Spring/Summer clothes and I’m not liking what I see.  How come one can gain weight faster than they lose it?  I guess once you lose your focus then it’s downhill from there.  So, today I start my Weight Watchers plan once again.  I need to lose 20 lbs but my long term goal is 40 lbs.  I’m going to try to do it on my own and not attend the meetings as I already have the literature and know how.  Wish me luck, I’ll need it!

Some Exciting News

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are looking into adopting a baby.  They have a 5 year old daughter now, who was conceived by IVF.  But after several unsuccessful attempts to conceive again, they’ve decided to stop trying.  As my sister-in-law says "it’s just not meant to be".  It has been really exhausting for them, all the doctor visits, the progesterone shots and countless days wondering if she was pregnant.  I’m really excited for them to have another little one to love!

Got Skills?

Have you been wanting to look for a new job? Want to see if there’s something better out there in your field? The first thing you need is a good resume. You should always keep an updated resume as you never know when you may hear of a job that you think is just right for you.

Resume writing has never been my strong point. Although I have helped others tweak theirs to make it sound a bit more professional, the problem I find is the trying to sell yourself part. Not only do you need the resume, it should be preceded by a cover letter. At Landjob.com you’ll find resume writing tips, resume templates and cover letters.  If you’re stuck, their services may be just what you need.

What a weekend!

We had such a busy weekend we had!  We went from having next to no plans to having every day filled with activities.  Because of them I have neglected my blog a little.  My days are all messed up since I’ve been off from work for the past 4 days so I forgot today was Wordless Wednesday.  I hope to have my WW post up by this afternoon along with everything else I did over the weekend.  Please check back!
