Manic Monday - Ornament

This one is easy! I thought I’d share my favorite ornaments. The Santa ornament is from my first trip to Yankee Candle in Deerfield, MA. It is the oldest and probably the heaviest and most pricey of all and always gets the coveted spot near the tippity top of the tree. I’ve picked up an ornament each and every visit to Yankee Candle since.

Next we have candy canes, a perfect ornament for the tree. Candy canes are inexpensive for a whole bunch and they’re pretty tasty too!

It’s funny that we always have ornaments leftover that we can’t fit on the tree. Either the trees we’re getting are smaller and smaller year after year or we’re buying too many ornaments.

My beef with TV Guide channel.

My two kids and I were watching TV Guide yesterday, sometime around 6:00, to see what Holiday specials or movies were on. On the top of the screen where they have entertainment shows, the show Lookalike came on. That’s the show where people think they look like a certain celebrity and a team of stylists do a makeover to help them look more the part. We watch the part where the people are introducing themselves and the stylists asks them a few questions. It’s all fine and innocent until one of the stylists asks a guy “Does looking like all these hot celebs get you laid?” another one says “Does it help your sex life?” Come on! I was appalled that they, on the TV Guide channel, would say stuff like that. I immediately changed the channel and was praying my 7 yr old would not ask me what “laid” meant. He didn’t, thank goodness!

Hotel Reservations Online

It’s more convenient to make your travel plan on your own. If you have time to research, it’s definitely easier and cheaper than going through a travel agent. The great thing about booking websites is that you are presented with a list of available accommodations in your destination city, so you can easily compare prices. Most have ratings and review features, so you can read about other traveler’s experiences with the hotel. Hotel Reservations Hotel Reservations is a hotel booking website but they also offer reservation and booking for flights, cars, vacation rentals and vacation packages, making it a one-stop shop for all your holiday planning needs. Like most booking websites, they guarantee lowest rates. I did my own research and found that HotelReservations.com has comparable rates to Hotels.com. After a few searches they were pretty much the same.

Shopping for skates.

I went out and bought some ice skates. I promised the kids that we’d go skating again this weekend since they loved it so much last weekend. They put skates on their list for Santa. The sporting goods store I went to had and unbelievable price on figure skates so I picked up a pair for my daughter. Unfortunately they did not have any for boys, all they offered were double blades in size 12 and 13 and then jumped to men’s sizes. An employee at the store called the other store that was about 30 minutes away and asked if they had a pair, the employee told me they were holding them a the front counter for 24 hours. I get to the other location, really pressed for time as I have chili in the crock pot at home, expecting my kids to be dropped off at any time and I left my cell phone at home! There was nothing at the front counter for me and no one admitted to taking the call. An employee takes me back to the skate section and there are NO boy’s figure skates, just like the store I was just at! I was fuming mad! He asked me “Are you sure you want to get him figure skates? When I was a kid, I asked my mom for skates and she got me figure skates but I wanted hockey skates” Yes, my son wants figure skates! No one was apologetic and I’m writing letters to managers!

Wordless Wednesday #10 - Like Glass

Santa’s coming soon!

Did everyone get their lists toSanta? My kids sent theirs off to Santa yesterday, I told them we’re cutting it kind of close so they shouldn’t be disappointed if they don’t get everything on their list (they never get everything anyway, lol). To be honest, I don’t think either of my kids still believe in Santa. My 11 yr old definitely doesn’t, she told me she knows it’s Mom and Dad.

Last year I wasn’t really smart about getting rid of the boxes that their Santa gifts came in and my son found them! He was 6 at the time so I figured all I had to tell them was Santa left them behind and I put them in the basement just to get them out of the way. I don’t think I was convincing though. I’m gonna try to pull off the Santa thing this year and try to convince my son that there is a Santa Claus because I think 7 is just too young to not believe.

I signed up for PPP!

I have been approved for payperpost My friend (and fellow blogger), Maggie had found this great website and has been doing PPP for quite some time now. PayPerPost allows me to write reviews about an array of things such as websites, stores, products and services and they will pay me for it! I’ve been reading lots of blogs, thanks to my friend Maggie, and decided it looked like a lot of fun and wanted to give it a shot. I didn’t really know until just recently that you turn your hobby into a money-maker!

One of the requirements to be approved by PPP, your blog needs to be at least 3 months old. I just registered my blog on Thursday the 29th (the 3 month anniversary of my blog) and my blog was approved within 3 days. I can now start to participate in the wide range of opportunities provided by PPP.

This is my first PPP and already I have plans for the money I’ll make in the future (I’m very optimistic that I will make at least a little bit of money). We’re going to Disney! Even if I don’t make enough to cover the trip, I’m sure I’ll have a bit of spending money.
